Little Elm ISD celebrates Teachers of the Year
By Andrew Snyder, asnyder@starlocalnews.com
Little Elm ISD teachers Beverly Jones-Purvis and Kevin Hamlin were honored as the elementary and secondary Teacher of the Year, respectively, during a banquet hosted by the Little Elm Chamber of Commerce last week to honor the district's top teachers.
Lakeside Middle School resource officer Tory Morgan was honored as the city's Police Officer of the Year.
“On behalf of our board of school trustees, and the staff and students of our district, I wish to thank each of these true professionals for their service to our community,” Superintendent Lynne Leuthard said during the ceremony.
“[Jones-Purvis] has a heart for each every child that walks into her room,” said Betsy Margraves, Lakeview principal. “She builds relationships with all students and provides support for all students regardless of what their behavioral or academic needs might be. When I need a pick-me-up, her classroom is the first one I step into. She has a way about her that is mesmerizing.”
Hamlin and Jones-Purvis were selected by a committee of community members that included representatives of the chamber of commerce and the city's economic development council, according to Leuthard.
"[Hamlin] is an excellent teacher and an incredible asset to Little Elm High School,” said Cleota Epps, Little Elm High associate principal. “He builds student character by setting high expectations and teaching self-discipline through coaching baseball. The respect and admiration students display for Mr. Hamlin on a daily basis speaks volumes as to the time and effort he extends to building quality relationships with his students.”
