Karate kids The Alert Child of Texas Karate Class in Mesquite recently held its end-of-year karate tournament. This is an after-school program offering weekly classes in karate, anti-kidnapping and self-defense, sponsored by the Mesquite ISD Community Education department. The event was held in Mesquite at Terry Middle School on Dec. 1. Classes are comprised of students from Kimball Elementary School and Mary Moss Elementary School, with students ranging from 4 to 15 years old. The events included Five Station Kick, Triple Kick, High Jump and Release Drill, timed events and non-timed events. Several students also participated in the Grand Sparring Event. Individual trophies were awarded to Mesquite students in each event. Other areas participating in the tournament were several locations in Dallas, Duncanville and Allen.
