Wrestling: Marcus' Litten remains unbeaten at Ranger Classic, squads ready for district tourney Friday

The District 5-5A Wrestling Tournament is rapidly approaching and Wednesday Marcus' squad got a look at potential foes when it hosted R.L. Turner and Hebron for a pair of duals on Senior Night.
The Marauders came out on top in both matches, defeating the Lions (55-15) and Hawks (48-26). The rest of the wrestling district includes Coppell, Colleyville Heritage, Grapevine, Flower Mound and Lewisville.
"We did a good job," said Mike Prado, Marcus head coach. "We got a chance to see a few district opponents and that will be helpful too. We already saw Colleyville and Grapevine earlier this season and won those matches. We also lost a match to Flower Mound and the only teams we haven't seen really are Lewisville and Coppell. So we have a good idea of what the district will be like."
The squad finished eighth and compiled an overall record of 20-17.
Individually, Brandon Litten took first competing at 195 pounds, while Lucas Lovell (103) finished third. Dylan Ross (152) and Nick Knill (138) notched fourth-place finishes for the Marauders.
"Ross lost against the No. 1 seed and really gave him about as good of a fight as he has had this year," Prado said. "Nick really wrestled well, too, and we had a couple of guys like Josh Hood (220) and Adam Weiss (132) who just missed out on placing."
For the season, Litten improved to 36-0 on the year.
Despite missing competitors in multiple weight classes, Marcus managed to edge out quality programs such as South Grand Prairie and Lake Highlands.
"Like a lot of teams, we weren't at full strength especially with this flu bug that is going around," Prado said. "It was a tough tournament with great competition and I was very pleased with how we performed at that level."
Lewisville, meanwhile, was paced by Jacob Pisana in second (138) and Hung Hoang in fourth (113).
The Farmers followed up their performance by topping Creekview Thursday in a dual (42-32).
"We didn't do so well at Jesuit, but I'm not too concerned," said Noel Peterson, Lewisville head coach. "We were a little beat up and had to move some guys around and it was just one of those times when we didn't do well."
The Farmers took this weekend off in an effort to get fully healthy for district Friday.
"We're pretty excited," Peterson said. "We just got a guy cleared to wrestle again (Minh Hoang) and we'll have a full team. I told the guys I expect to have 14 wrestlers moving onto regionals. We've had a great season and a wonderful time so far."
The Lady Farmers were also in action last week at the Titan Invitational in Frisco where they placed seventh of 21 squads.
"We didn't wrestle too bad," said Joe Daniel, Lewisville girls head coach. "We're just trying to stay healthy and get ready for district next week and I think we did that. We have a couple of little injuries, but hopefully they'll be back and ready for next week."
Lewisville was paced by a first-place performance from Brittany Marshall (165), while Tommi Goodman finished second (102) and Selphia Galloway took fourth (138).
For the season, Marshall improved to 29-2, with Goodman at 27-4 and Bea Sanchez 29-10.
"We only have one with a losing record and have only lost one dual all year," Daniel said. "And we haven't had a wrestler at 95 all season, which has been frustrating. It's never easy to be giving up 12 points every match you start, so we'll need everyone to do well in district to make up for that."
Flower Mound, Lewisville and Marcus will all be in action Friday at Coppell for the district tournament.
