FLOWER MOUND — While Flower Mound’s girls basketball team was moving one step closer to its goal of a district title, senior guard Ashley Deary was inching her way to Lady Jaguar history.
Deary scored 13 points Tuesday in Flower Mound’s 56-35 victory over Hebron, tying her with Laura McCoy (2007-10) for the program scoring record at 1,514 points.
McCoy, who has taken her skills to North Texas, was a senior when Deary was a freshman.
Current Flower Mound freshman Lauren Cox led the Lady Jaguars with 21 points in the win.
The Lady Jaguars stifled Hebron — who was paced by 14 points from Molly Pospichal — early, blanking the Lady Hawks, 13-0, in the first quarter.
Deary now needs a just a single free throw Friday to set the record and can do so against rival Marcus (6-2). A win would also clinch the District 5-5A Championship for Flower Mound.
“We’re going to need a lot more than one point from Ashley to beat Marcus though,” said Sherika Nelson, Flower Mound head coach.
