Hill, Apple seeking re-election to CISD board

Published: Tuesday, February 5, 2013 12:33 PM CST
Filing as candidates in the May 11 Coppell school board election began last week and continues through March 1.

Anthony Hill of Place 3 and J. David Apple of Place 2 have filed as candidates for re-election. Susie Kemp of Place 1, whose three-year term expires this year, said she is considering filing for re-election but has not yet made a final decision.

Hill, who has been on the school board since May 2007, is currently serving in his second year as board president. He was previously board vice president.

Hill said, “My vision for the next term would be to see student achievement grow through additional innovative and engaging learning practices;  to see our sub-populations’ academic achievements improve further across all categories; increase the number of business and community partners through contacts within the Coppell community and contacts outside of the Coppell community; to see our character and support programs for K-12 reach students who are in need; to ensure our extracurricular programs stay vibrant and essential to the districts' academic success; abd to ensure our educational facilities meet both current and future students' instructional needs.”

Hill and his wife have been active community members in Coppell for almost 20 years. They have a son who is a junior at New Tech High at Coppell.

Apple said, “I have served on the board for about eight years.  My first term was a partial term and I am now completing my third term.  I have served as secretary and vice president during my tenure.  I am an attorney and have my law firm here in Coppell.  I have a great and supporting family.  My wife is a former teacher and actually taught briefly at CMS West years ago when they needed a science teacher mid-year.”

He added, “My children have all attended Coppell schools.  My older son, Michael, graduated in 2009 and is currently a senior at Texas A&M University.  My daughter, Aubrie, graduated in 2011 and is currently a sophomore at Texas A&M University.  My youngest son is a junior at New Tech at Coppell and plays on the CHS boys varsity soccer team.”

He concluded, “The next few years are going to be some of the most pivotal years in our district and I want to be involved in this exciting time.  I also believe that my experience and knowledge from having served these past eight years as a trustee will greatly benefit our district as it continues to set the standard for all to follow.  For these reasons, I am excited to seek re-election.”
