Longview won its first 11 matches of the season, but entered 12-5A play on Friday with back-to-back losses.
Mesquite made sure that trend continued as it used a goal from Naidine Jones to post a 1-0 victory on the opening day of the district season.
The Skeeters earned three points with the regulation win, joining Rockwall-Heath, which blanked Tyler Lee, in first place after the first round of games.
North Mesquite picked up one point after being edged in a shootout by Rockwall. The Stallions got regulation goals from Kacy Dixon and Alexis Santos as the teams were tied at 2-2 prior to penalty kicks.
Mesquite and North Mesquite will meet on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at E.H. Hanby Stadium in an early crosstown clash.
Horn, who put together an impressive 9-1-1 record through non-district play, had a bye on Friday and will be rested and ready to go for its 12-5A opener on Tuesday at Rockwall-Heath.
