It's one thing to make a New Year's resolution, but it's another to keep that momentum going -especially if it pertains to fitness and diet.

That's why Cooper Aerobics Center at Craig Ranch - with the help of Texas Health Resources - is launching a package of integrative wellness tools not just for its members, but for all in the community.

Texas Health will offer behavioral health care services to include health consultations, counseling and group therapy sessions designed to merge physical and emotional well-being. Seminars and weekend retreats will also be offered to teach and reinforce practices and skills - such as mindfulness - that can lead to healthier choices and a more joyful quality of life.

The mental and emotional support classes will be a helpful tool for when life gets in the way of maintaining one's commitment to health and fitness, said Roger Sargent, general manager for Cooper Fitness Center.

"We want to be able to offer not just personal training and fitness coaching, but we also want to be able to help those guys who really need to stay focused on what they need to be doing, whatever their goal is," he said.

Certified trainers and counselors from Texas Health will facilitate nine therapy groups for everyone from adolescents to adults, addressing topics such as dealing with the emotional aspects of chronic pain, disease and anxiety.

To help set individuals for nutritional success, licensed dieticians will also offer monthly nutritional classes, informative, hands-on workshops and one-on-one consultations to help with menu planning and improving one's culinary skills.

"The two needs are probably time management and stress [management]," Sargent said. "Stress will wear you out faster than anything else. Having a good physical strength, nutritional expertise and some emotional well-being, we can help eliminate or reduce that stress."

Texas Health is looking forward to bringing its wellness programs to McKinney, as it has been incorporating changes into an individual's lifestyle for quite some time, with favorable results, said Ramona Osburn, senior director of Texas Health Springwood and the Texas Health Seay Center.

"I think as research has gone forward, there's such a big emphasis on total well-being," she said. "You can't have total well-being if you don't have the emotional and the physical combined together to get you there."

To further its initiative, Texas Health also offers interactive, online tools encouraging simple daily steps to incorporate into one's busy schedule, which can be found at texashealth.org/well-being.

Cooper offers yoga and Pilates classes, healing massage therapy, nutritional coaching for adults and youth and Airrosti injury recovery. For information, call 214-383-1000 or visit coopercraigranch.com.
