Senior Adult Services supports our older population through comprehensive programs that enhance and extend the time that seniors are able to live independently. For more than 35 years this nonprofit organization has addressed one of the most crucial needs of aging adults: accessible and affordable transportation.
“Because four out of 10 adults 65 and older no longer work and live alone, isolation can become an issue if the ability to get out and about is curtailed,” said Mary Joiner, executive director.
Rides were initially provided by volunteers but funding from TXDOT has enabled SAS to purchase lift-equipped vans. The agency recently extended its service area and a grant from the Carl B. & Florence E. King Foundation will help SAS keep three vehicles in use on a regular basis.
