HANCOCK
Mayfrey Pauline Buckler Hancock, 93, passed away February 15, 2013, at Mercy Villa in Springfield, Missouri.
She was born October 29, 1919, in Boone County near Columbia, Missouri.One of the darkest times in her history was the start of WWII when she was 22 years old. One of her most important meetings was when she met her favorite baseball player, Wally Moon. She also worked and retired from the Baptist Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, and was on duty when Lisa Marie Presley was born, being one of the busiest days of her work career. She was also working when Medicare first started. She talked about how much paperwork was involved. She also reminisced about how quiet the streets of Memphis were after the shooting of Martin Luther King Jr.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Obie and Hettie Buckler; brother, JT Buckler; and her husband of 59 years, Orville Hancock.
She is survived by her sisters, Lorraine Krofft of Raytown, Missouri, Kathleen Benjamin of Coppell, Texas, Lucille McGrath of Fulton, Missouri, and Dorothy Marti of Springfield, Missouri; and her favorite niece of all time, Robin Pennington of Rogersville, Missouri. She was also blessed with several other nieces and nephews and surviving members of her husband's family who meant a lot to her.
She moved to Mercy Villa in Springfield, Missouri, June 1, 2011, where she made many friends and received excellent care.
No services are planned per her request. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Memphis. Arrangements are by Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, 1947 E. Seminole St. Springfield, MO 65804, 417-886-9994.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Villa-Court Yard ATTN: Chaplain Ann Payette, 1100 Montclair, Springfield, MO 65804. As she loved flowers and trees, this will help maintain this area. Donations may also be made to First United Methodist Church, 800 W. 5th Street, Fort Worth, TX 76102 to put toward their woman groups.
To the end she had her humor, her smart wits, and her hair done weekly and requested lipstick and perfectly painted fingernails.
We love you, Aunt Paul, and thanks for making our lives much richer.
