| James Robert (Bob) Johnson |
James Robert (Bob) Johnson, 61, or "Dr. Bob," passed away February 15, 2013, in Cochiti Lake, New Mexico.
He was married to Anita Miller.Born in Dallas, Texas, on April 9, 1951, Bob is survived by his wife; parents; U.S. Congressman Sam and Shirley Johnson (3rd Dist.-Texas); his sisters, Gini Mulligan and Beverly Briney; his children, Beth Hearn and Bobby Johnson; his five grandchildren; and eight nieces and nephews.
An astrophysicist and research scientist, Bob held various notable job positions including vice president of ADB Technical, chief scientist of Raytheon Intelligence and Information Systems, and research scientist at the Lunar Planetary Laboratory.
Career high points include the detection of an atmosphere on Pluto, developing the foundational principles of a new branch of mathematics, and the publication of 63 technical research articles and papers. As a true Renaissance man, his expertise included information science, high dynamic range photography, astronomy, terrorism prevention techniques, designing a home, data fusion, seeing the world, and performing his original piano compositions.
In spite of such accomplishment, Bob was revered in the eyes of many as being a man of humility, integrity and kindness. While never boasting in his wealth of knowledge, he loved to teach anyone who was willing to learn. He truly desired that others would achieve their greatest potential. He was a blessing to all who knew him through his character and his knowledge.
A private family memorial will held in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
The family will also hold a local memorial on Sunday, March 3, at 2:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Plano, located at 3160 E. Spring Creek Pkwy., Plano, with an informal reception to follow. Flowers for the memorial may be sent to the address listed above.
