Tax assistance available at library
AARP is providing free tax assistance for all citizens on a first-come, first-served basis, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Mondays only at the Mesquite Public Library, 300 W. Grubb Drive.
Volunteers to assist will continue to be available on Mondays only on March 4, 11, 18 and 25 and April 1, 8 and 15.
Interested individuals should bring a Social Security card or other documentation for taxpayer and dependents, a copy of last year's return and required paperwork (W-2 forms, 1099 forms, etc.).
Get in the Game at North Branch Library
Kids in grades 6-12 are invited to the Mesquite North Branch Library at 4 p.m. on Wednesdays, March 6, 13, 20 and 27, to play games like Guitar Hero, Super Mario Brothers and Wii Sports!
Other kids' activities include: On Thursday, March 7, children can explore science through simple activities when the Science Club meets at 4 p.m. Recommended for ages 7-13. And beginning at 3 p.m. on March 9 and 23, come build something awesome to display during the LEGO Club meeting.

Pets of the week
Zoey is a small Brussels griffon mix. She is black and has a great personality. Zoey would make a great pet for any family. Come see Zoey in Bay 1, Kennel 19.
Murphy is a small male rust-and-white terrier mix. Murphy is a very sweet and gentle boy. When you play with Murphy he seems to have a smile in his eyes. Come see Murphy today in Kennel 41.
There is an adoption fee of $60 for cats and $80 for dogs. This fee includes sterilization, vaccinations and microchipping of the animal, as well as a city of Mesquite registration of the pet for Mesquite residents. Persons adopting Pet of the Week animals will receive a free grooming coupon complimentary of T-Bone/Tuna.
The Mesquite Animal Shelter & Adoption Center is located at 1650 Gross Road in Mesquite.
The shelter is open 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday-Friday and 1 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Call 972-216-6283 for information.
Book club will discuss 'The Language of Flowers'
The next meeting of the Mesquite Public Library book club is 7 p.m., Thursday, March 7. The featured book is "The Language of Flowers" by Vanessa Diffenbaugh.
Patrons of the Mesquite Public Library are invited to join the book club. Each month the club will read a different book and then meet to discuss it. The club meets first Thursdays at 7 p.m. in the Meeting Room at the Mesquite Main Library, 300 W. Grubb Drive. For information call 972-216-6220.
