It's time for mothers and sons to pull out their Sunday-best and their dancing shoes and prepare for a night of music and entertainment. The Mesquite Parks and Recreation is hosting its annual mother son dance from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, March 1, at the Mesquite Convention Center, 1700 Rodeo Drive. The event is for mothers and sons who range in age from 4 to 12 years.
"This event is a great opportunity for some quality bonding time between mothers and their sons," said Alyssa Smith, marketing specialist for the parks and recreation department. "We hope that they will all want to take advantage of this opportunity."
This year the event will be "A Black Tie Affair" and everyone is encouraged to show off their fashion sense.
"This year we really wanted a theme that was fun but encouraged everyone to dress to impress," Smith said. "This event has grown so much. Last year we had approximately 250 people attend the dance. The dance was initially held at the recreation centers, but as the numbers grew we had to move it to the convention center where there is more room."
The event will include music by Bill Cody's Party Time Productions as well as dancing, door prizes and light refreshments. Professional portraits will be offered by Holland Creations for an additional fee. The photographer will begin taking photos at 6:30 p.m.
"This year we are offering the professional portraits. In the past the photos have been done by parks and recreation staff," Smith said.
Advance tickets are available for $15 per person at any Mesquite recreation center, online at www.cityofmesquite.com/pard or at the parks and recreation administration office, 1515 North Galloway Ave. Tickets purchased at the door will be $20.
