(UPDATE) Man dies in 3-vehicle accident

A man died in a three-vehicle accident on Highway 5 Thursday afternoon in McKinney.
Shortly before 1 p.m., Jody Casey, 49, of McKinney, was returning from lunch to his job at MCD Innovations, Terri Parish, the mother of his two children, told the McKinney Courier-Gazette on Monday.
While waiting to turn into the business off Highway 5, a pickup truck traveling northbound rear-ended Casey's red Ford Fiesta, forcing him into oncoming traffic in the southbound lane. Another truck traveling soutbound struck the passenger side of Casey's vehicle, nearly crushing the entire side.
Casey was partially hanging out the driver's side window when emergency personnel arrived, a witness on scene said Thursday. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the truck traveling south sustained minor injuries, and the driver who rear-ended Casey's car wasn't injured, according to the accident report.
Police shut down Highway 5 both directions between Wilmeth Road and Farm-to-Market 543 for about three hours, said Deputy Chief Joe Ellenburg of McKinney PD.
Soon after the accident, community members emailed the McKinney Courier-Gazette contending that residents of a neighborhood near the scene had asked the city to put in a traffic light and lower the speed limit on that portion of Highway 5.
"This horrific accident is proof there needs to be changes," one resident stated in an email.
Police continued their investigation into any outlying cause of the accident but had not yet released details as of Monday afternoon.
