Commerce, TX (March 4, 2013) – Texas A&M University-Commerce Alumni Relations and the Office of the Vice President and Provost for Academic Affairs welcomed 22 graduates back to campus as Alumni Ambassadors on Feb. 28, 2013.

Each academic department selected an alumnus/alumna to represent its division as an Ambassador at the Alumni Ambassador Forum. The official designation given to these individuals, “Ambassador,” is the highest honor a department may bestow upon its alumni.

Head Retail Sales and Office Manager at Chambersville Tree Farm in McKinney, Barbara Villarreal, was honored by Texas A&M University-Commerce department of Agricultural Sciences at the annual forum.

Villarreal graduated from Texas A&M University-Commerce in 2008 with a Bachelor of Arts in Agricultural Science and Technology with an emphasis in Ornamental Horticulture and a Masters Degree in Agricultural Science and Technology in 2010.

“This program began in 1984 and is designed to honor graduates and the academic program from which they earned a degree,” says Derryle Peace, director of Alumni Relations. “On this day, alumni return to campus to speak to classes and/or faculty to share their experiences and insight. This opportunity provides the alumni a chance to return to campus while also interacting with our extraordinary student body, faculty and staff.”

The Forum began in the morning with a welcome reception at the Alumni Center in which the Ambassador met his/her departmental host. Their host would accompany them to the department where the Ambassador interacted with students, faculty and staff while also touring the university campus. A recognition luncheon followed at the Rayburn Student Center where the alumnus/alumna was introduced and cited as an Alumni Ambassador by their designated college. After the luncheon, Ambassadors resumed their scheduled departmental lectures and campus visits until the end of the day.

After 30 years, the Alumni Ambassador Forum has recognized 831 Ambassadors.
