Sachse boys, Horn girls place second at Carl Norris Relays

The Sachse boys and Horn girls track and field teams brought home second-place finishes from the Carl Norris Relays on Saturday at E.H. Hanby Stadium.
DeSoto swept both the boys and girls team titles.
The Eagle boys finished with 170 points to hold off Sachse, who had 114. Poteet (78) finished fourth, followed by North Mesquite (54) in fifth and Horn (30) in sixth.
The Mustang boys made the most waves in the sprints. Devin Duvernay blazed to a gold medal in the 100 meters in a time of 11.12 seconds, with teammate Kionte Sheffield in third. David Alexander then took first place in the 200 meters.
The 400 relay team of Duvernay, Sheffield, Reginald Miller and Kennard Clay grabbed second in a time of 43.32 seconds.
Austin Williams won the triple jump with a mark of 44-08.75. He also finished second in the long jump, just in front of Duvernay, who was third.
Sachse also picked up valuable points in the 1,600 relay, where Williams, Bruce Brookins, Brice Smith, Xavier Carroll and Dennan Wheeler placed third, and Cole Calkins took second in the pole vault.
The Poteet used boys used a number of strong individual finishes to place fourth overall. Khalil Arnold and Jarrett Ingram finished 1-2 in the high jump, with Cody Dziak winning the 1,600.
Josafat Martinez and Carlos Nuno placed second and third, respectively, in the 3,200. Steeven Martinez was the runner-up in the 800, Kejuan Brown took second in the 200 and Aajmie Tolliver crossed third in the 400.
North Mesquite's Benjamin Haynes was first in the 800 and second in the 1,600. Aaron Akens won the discus with a throw of 158-01, which was 25 feet further than his nearest competitor, while teammate Michael Nichols was second in both the discus and shot put.
Horn's Jake McGee won the pole valut, with teammate David Gamble placing third.
Horn's lone winning performance on the girls side came from Kodii Chruch, who took first place in the 400 meters. Church was also third in the 800 and joined Kishana Allen, Daysha Bullocks and Brittany Jackson on the 1,600 relay team that was third.
Deja Young was the runner-up in the 200, while Teresa Siguanza and Dominique Allen posted the same finish in the 3,200 and discus, respectively.
Aatiyah Henry was third in both the 200 and long jump, whle Johnson placed third in the 300 hurdles.
Poteet's Julia Watson won the pole vault for her team's lone victory. Brooke Bush was the runner-up in the shot put, Savanah Doty placed third in the 3,200 and Kelsey Stewart took third in the discus.
The highlight for the Sachse girls came in the 100 hurdles, where Paige Jones was second and Andrea Foster placed third. Michelle Chukwujekwu was also third in the triple jump.
