Americans clinch first-round home ice
The Americans secured home-ice advantage for at least the first round of the CHL playoffs Tuesday night with a 2-1 win over the Arizona Sundogs.
Allen is now 36-14-9 (81 points).
Allen netminder Aaron Dell (20-7-6) stopped 23-of-24 shots for the win.
Next up is a triple shot with the Fort Worth Brahmas. Allen is away Friday and Saturday, and hosts the Brahmas at 4:05 p.m. Sunday at the AEC.
Szeryk wins thriller
If the Class 5A State Tournament is anywhere near as compelling as Friday's State Preview, then golf fans may be in for an all-time classic.
The girls state preview was Friday at the Morris Williams Golf Course in Austin.
There, The Woodlands (team score of 611) edged Lake Travis and Allen (612) for the victory. Things were even tighter in the individual standings as Lady Eagles linkster Maddie Szeryk shot a two-day total of 140 but couldn't lay claim to being tournament champion until after six playoff holes.
A day prior, things were much more comfortable for the Allen boys.
Competing at Lake Park in Lewisville for the Denton Invitational, the Eagles contingent of Jackson Meeker (also the tourney champ), Nathan White, Addison Gibson, Nathan Lenox and Dillon Raney put up a team score of 314. That was 47 strokes better than second-place Sherman.
Lady Eagles at 0-2
Wins are imperative on a 10-game district slate.
Unfortunately for the Allen softball team, they have yet to achieve that goal two games into 10-5A play. The Lady Eagles dropped Friday's opener to Plano East, 8-3, and lost Monday night to Plano West, 13-2, despite a double from senior Jenna Holbert and triple by sophomore Anna Dindak.
Allen has time to correct the problems as its next district game isn't until Tuesday when hosting McKinney Boyd at 7 p.m.

Up All Night tennis returns
Allen tennis will host its 7th annual Up All Night fundraiser April 26.
The event operates just as the title suggests with players staying up throughout the evening and engaging in a variety of competitions in an effort to raise money for the program and the Foundation for Allen Schools. Formerly reserved for just varsity players, Allen ISD middle school players were brought into the fold last year.
Hall of Honor nominations
Though the Allen ISD began enshrining people into its Hall of Honor when Eagle Stadium opened, the district is still seeking future nominees.
Candidates must be ex-athletes, employees, teams or supporters of AISD. They must have graduated from Allen at least 10 years ago and demonstrated good character throughout their post-high school athletic career. If a nominee is deceased, a representative of his/her family may accept the honor.
Nomination forms can be found at: allenisd.org.
Nominations should include as much detail as possible to help choose the best candidates. The selection committee will name recipients at an annual AISD Hall of Honor banquet.
