11-5A GIRLS SOCCER: Mustangs top Garland, Eagles wrap up playoff berth with rout of South
Published: Wednesday, March 13, 2013 12:02 AM CDT
Just days after a big win over Rowlett, Sachse had to refocus on Friday for another huge challenge.
The Mustangs had edged into first place with their win over the Eagles, but they knew that a loss to Garland could drop them right back down into fourth place.
Sachse suffered no letdown as it rolled to a 3-0 victory over the Owls on Friday.
Chelsea Followwell, Kayla McKeon and Julia McLeod provided the scoring and the defense did the rest as the Mustangs improved to 8-2 in 11-5A.
Rowlett bounced back from its loss to Sachse in a big way with a 10-0 rout of South Garland.
Grayson Byrd led the way with four goals, Bri Arnold scored twice and Melissa Boren, Mariah Caldwell, Pilar Morales and Edith Payan added goals for the Eagles.
The district teams are taking some time off this week during Spring Break before returning to action for the stretch run on Tuesday.
Rowlett has an important match when it meets Naaman Forest at 6 p.m. at Homer B. Johnson Stadium. The Eagles and Rangers are tied for second place in 11-5A and the winner will move into a tie for first with idle Sachse.
All three of those teams have already clinched playoff berths and Garland can join them on Tuesday with a victory over last-place South Garland.
