Sunnyvale's Lewis, Williams lead the way on 12-2A all-district girls basketball team

The Sunnyvale girls basketball team put together another solid season.
While the Raiders fell just short of the district championship, they did finish second in 12-2A and defeated Callisburg in the opening round of the playoffs before falling to eventual state champion Brock.
Sunnyvale, who finished the season with a 22-11 record, had several players recognized on the 12-2A all-district team, including a pair of superlative award winners.
Raiders' senior Olivia Williams was tabbed as the 6th Man of the Year, coming off the bench to provide both scoring punch and defense.
Grace Goodhart was honored as a first-team selection. The sophomore led the team in scoring at 11.4 points per game, while also pulling down 4.8 rebounds and dishing out a team-leading 3.6 assists per contest.
Andi Morgan, the team's leading rebounder and defender, was named to the second team as was Caila Sims, who averaged better than 10 points and hit 34 treys.
Seniors Delanee Clark and Abby Duck received honorable mention recognition. All of those Sunnyvale players also earned academic all-district honors, as did Whitney Matous and Lily Quiroz.
District champion Gunter captured the other superlative awards, led by most valuable player junior Regan Hestand. Freshman Mikayla Watson was named defensive most valuable player, sophomore Mackenzie Mazerolle was tabbed newcomer of the year and Bruce Keats was honored as coach of the year.
