10-4A SOFTBALL: Forney hands Pirates first district loss

Poteet could not match Forney's firepower on Tuesday as the Jackrabbits pulled out a 12-4 victory in a battle of district co-leaders.
The Pirates, who fell to 3-1 in 10-4A after suffering their first district loss, led 2-1 going to the third inning, but Forney countered with six runs to take control.
Madison Yannetti, Hannah Jobson and Cassie Vasquez each drove in runs for Poteet, who also hurt its own cause with four errors.
Yannetti, Shelby Wilson and Selena Mendoza all smacked home runs in a 6-2 victory over Carrollton Newman Smith on Friday, but the bats were just getting warmed up.
Less than 24 hours later, Poteet banged out 12 hits on its way to a 9-4 win against Highland Park.
Vasquez earned the win on the mound, striking out 15 Scot hitters. Wilson had a huge game, going 3-for-3 with two doubles, a home run and four runs batted in.
The Pirates' two through five hitters--Mendoza, Yannetti, Wilson and Jobson--combined to go 11-for-14 with four walks, eight runs and seven RBIs.
West Mesquite's tough times continued with an 11-1 loss to Carrollton Creekview on Friday and an 11-0 shutout to North Forney on Monday.
Poteet is still just a game off the first-place pace set by Forney and North Forney and it will try to stay in the upper tier of the standings when they face Carrollton Creekview on Tuesday.
