11-5A BASEBALL WEEKEND ROUNDUP: Sachse streaking into district play

Published: Sunday, March 3, 2013 7:27 PM CST
Sachse will be riding a wave of momentum into Tuesday's start of the 11-5A season.

The Mustangs won four consecutive games this past weekend and will carry a 6-2-1 record into its district opener at home against North Garland.

Sachse completed play at the Wylie Donnie Worthington Classic on Saturday with a pair of victories.

The Mustangs struck in the later innings in a 6-2 victory over Frisco Centennial. The game was tied at 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth when Sachse pushed across three runs to take control.

Jeremy Hadley had a double, triple and three RBIs, Eric Williams had three hits and drove in a run and Reed Enna added a pair of hits and a run batted in.

Josh Lewis went five innings to pick up the win, while Williams struck out four in two innings to earn the save.

Earlier on Saturday, Sachse held of McKinney Boyd for a 7-6 win. With the strength of a six-run second inning, the Mustangs led 7-0, but the Broncos chipped away with three in the fourth, two in the sixth and one in the seventh, but the rally came up just short.

Kyle Weatherly doubled and drove in three while Blake Dean had a triple and three RBIs. Treovr Weitzman went five and two-thirds innings and Don Malone came on in relief for the save.

Sachse doubled up Willis on Friday for a 4-2 win, as a three-run first inning proved to be the difference. Hadley had three hits and drove in two, while Kent Myers and Enna also plated runs. Williams also pitched a perfect seventh inning to save the game for Malone.

In the tournament opener, Sachse used three pitchers to combine on a no-hitter in a 5-1 victory over Wylie at the Wylie Tournament.

Weatherly started and struck out eight in four innings of work. Weitzman had a pair of Ks in his two innings and Erick Blue came on in the seventh to finish it out.

Sachse scored all of its runs in the first two innings. Dean had a double and two RBIs, while Williams, Enna and Weatherly all added runs batted in.

Rowlett (1-6-1) suffered through a rough weekend, as it dropped all five games at the Flower Mound Showdown.

The Eagles could not get the offense going early on with losses to Rockwall-Heath (7-1) and Flower Mound (8-0) on Thursday.

The same was true in the opener on Friday in a 3-1 setback to Plano. Rowlett showed signs of snapping out its slump ina 6-3 loss to Flower Mound Marcus and they nearly ended the tournament with a win.

The Eagles pounded out eight hits, including doubles from Luke Hamblin and Dalton Atnip, but that was not quite enough in an 8-7 loss to Frisco Wakeland.

Sachse will open the 11-5A season on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at home at North Garland, while Rowlett has a district bye and will face Argyle on the road in a non-district game.
