Rowlett resident receives OBU academic scholarship

Rowlett resident Katie Luedecke recently was awarded a Trustees' Academic Scholarship by Oklahoma Baptist University for the 2012-13 academic year.

Presented in recognition of academic achievement, the Founders' Academic Scholarship is an annual $10,000 scholarship which can be renewed for three additional years, making the honor worth a potential of $40,000.

A senior homeschool student, Luedecke is a member of the U.S. Swim Team. She also volunteers in nursing home ministry. She currently plans to pursue a degree in exercise sports science.

Luedecke is the daughter of Mark and Kristi Luedecke. She is a member of Lakepointe Church in Rockwall.

OBU President David Whitlock presented a certificate of recognition to each 2012-13 academic scholarship recipient during a Feb. 16 ceremony on the university's campus.

With campuses in Shawnee, Okla., and Oklahoma City, OBU offers 10 bachelor's degrees with 84 fields of study and two master's degree programs. The Christian liberal arts university has an overall enrollment of 1,979, with students from 37 states and 26 other countries. OBU has been rated as one of the top 10 comprehensive colleges in the West by U.S. News and World Report for 21 consecutive years and has been Oklahoma's highest rated comprehensive college in the U.S. News rankings for 19 consecutive years. Forbes.com consistently ranks OBU as a top university in Oklahoma.




University of Houston recognizes fall 2012 dean's list students

More than 6,700 students made the University of Houston Dean's List for the fall 2012 semester. Christopher Cummins, Olivia Odell, Derrick Rice and Stephanie Trieu, all Rowlett residents, were granted an achievement for earning a spot on the dean's list at University of Houston.
