DVAP hosting free legal clinic
The Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program (DVAP), a joint initiative of the Dallas Bar Association and Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas, will hold a free legal clinic at 5 p.m., Wednesday, March 27, at the Belo Mansion, 2101 Ross Ave. in Dallas, for Dallas County residents who meet certain financial guidelines.
Volunteer attorneys will provide free legal assistance for Dallas County residents to assist with benefits, consumer, employment, family, housing, landlord-tenant, probate, real property, tax and wills matters. DVAP does not help with criminal cases, tickets, or fee-generating cases, such as medical malpractice and personal injury matters.
DVAP provides advice, brief legal services and full representation. If residents need assistance before or after the clinic, they can attend one of the DVAP's other legal clinics held in the Dallas area eight times each month. Mesquite AMBUCS looking for new members

Mesquite AMBUCS is always looking for new members or all ages to make a difference in the community. AMBUCS provides individuals with disabilities with the opportunity to be mobile and enjoy life just a little better through the use of Amtrykes.

Clean it up!
Trim those trees and bushes, increase your property value and get a jump on spring cleaning during the annual March Clean-up Campaign. The program allows Rowlett residents to dispose of brush and nonhazardous bulk items free of charge and without limits on the number of visits.
The program runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day in March, including weekends, weather permitting; the site -- at 1409 Castle Drive -- will be closed if it is raining. A driver's license or ID is required as proof of residence. Those with a Wylie address and an East Fork water bill are acceptable.

First Rowlett UMC seeks to stop Rowlett hunger
First Rowlett United Methodist Church is holding a food drive during the Lenten season to stock food pantries in the area and to help bring awareness about hunger in the community.
The church is asking donors on Sunday, March 24, to leave boxed dinners (such as Hamburger/Tuna Helper) on the shelves outside of the worship center in the narthex.

Keep Rowlett Beautiful with a Great American Cleanup
From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, join your friends and neighbors, young and the young at heart, to clean up designated areas around the lake and around the city of Rowlett.
Scout groups, school clubs, church groups, corporate teams, families, even neighbors getting together can sign up and later join the fun after the work is done with a Volunteer Thank You Lunch at the Pavilion at the Wet Zone, where everyone can compare their haul and share bragging rights!

KRB hosting electronic recycling roundup
Are you ready to get space at home by getting rid of the old, outdated electronics to help make Rowlett even more beautiful? Then bring those items to the Home Depot parking lot from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 27. Items will be reused, recycled, or safely disposed of.
Acceptable items include printers, copiers, phones, faxes, computers, monitors, scanners, TVs, games, batteries ... and much more. Almost anything that runs on electricity or batteries, and their accessories, will be recycled. No Freon.

There's still time to enter the 2013 Rowlett writing contest
The Rowlett Arts and Humanities Commission announces the 2013 Rowlett writing contest is under way. Youth in grades 1-12 and adults 18 and up are invited to submit works in three categories: Short Works (plays, essays, etc., of 15-30 minutes in length); Short Story (one to three pages, double-spaced); and Poem (one to two pages, double-spaced).
All entries must be typed and should be suitable for family viewing. No more than one entry is allowed per participant, per category. Each entry must be accompanied by a cover sheet that includes the writer's name, address, email, phone number, division and category. Do not include the name on the entry itself.
Entries are due by Monday, April 29, and should be mailed or dropped off to the Rowlett Public Library at 3900 Main St., Rowlett, TX 75088. Contact Mary Drayer at 214-226-3651 or note_worthy@hotmail.com for information.
Rowlett library offers a book club for everyone
Every Wednesday from 2-3:30 p.m., the Rowlett Public Library hosts a book club just for homeschool teens. The meeting offers a great way to socialize and share what you're currently reading.
Readers can also join the "No Page Unturned" club on the third Thursday of every month for a lively and entertaining book discussion, sharing what they're currently reading with the group. The meeting is BYOL - Bring Your Own Latte - and the library will supply the cookies! The club meets from 7 to 8 p.m.
